What is Doxycycline Hyclate?
Doxycycline Hyclate is an antibiotic that is sourced synthetically from oxytetracycline. It is a drug that is commonly used to fight bacterial infections. Its main action is to slow the growth of bacteria inside the body to allow for the body’s immune system to work and perhaps eliminate them all throughout. It may be used with other drugs in treating a variety of conditions including acne vulgaris and infections secondary to amoebas. Dental and urinary tract infections also respond well to doxycycline hyclate treatment.

But aside from its use in various infections in different parts of the body, doxycycline hyclate may also be used as a preventive measure for people who travel to places where malaria is rampant. This particular drug may also help in slowing the progression of infection from anthrax especially at the time after exposure. Though doxycycline hyclate is a powerful antibiotic, not all bacterial strains may respond to this drug. Medical conditions that result from viral infections also do not respond to doxycycline hyclate treatment.

Doxycycline hyclate is available in tablet and capsule form. Dosage depends on the medical condition involved and must strictly be coordinated with licensed physicians. People with liver disease, colitis, those who are pregnant and breast-feeding should take caution before taking this drug. It is advised that these people consult their doctors first before starting doxycycline hyclate treatment. Children with bacterial infections should also coordinate with their pediatricians on the dosage and frequency of taking this particular drug. This drug is best taken with a full glass of water and without food. Doxycycline hyclate may also have interactions with other drugs including antacids, birth control pills, other antibiotics, warfarin, phenytoin, and barbiturates among others. And so consultation with licensed physicians is a must for people who are taking other drugs before commencing treatment with this antibiotic.

In regards to doxycycline hyclate. I have had Lymes on and off for over 15 years. Had been on many antibiotics including doxy. My girl friend just came down with lymes, and is on doxy. Cost was 15-30.00 now price quadrupled. Shortage of raw material? If synthetic what material could possibly be in short supply? Also said people stock piling for dooms day. Went to pharmacy today 8/12/13 $281.00, now what?
