What is Didactic or Didactic Method? It is a teaching method or pedagogy of instruction that focuses in engaging the student’s mind. The didactic method of instruction can be of authority and telling, and of giving right or wrong answers. Didactics is mainly a theory of teaching, and in a much wider perspective, it is a theory of using practical application of learning.

It refers to the foundation or beginning of an educator’s lesson plan, where the ultimate goal of the teacher is to impart knowledge. The teacher is to be seen as an authoritative figure, but also functions as a guide and resource for his or her students. Those students who are effective in this type of learning are adept at memorization and repeating important points of the topics discussed by the teacher. However, some learners who are not unable to pay attention to the teacher while he or she is discussing are considered not belonging to this type of learning. In a classroom setting, these students are advised to leave the room or are banished to stay at a corner of the room, like a time out.

The Didactic method of teaching still remains as the pedagogical model of learning of many traditional classrooms and teachers, the room has a blackboard or whiteboard at the front, where the teacher will write what is being discussed to the class. It may be contrasted with experiential learning or open learning, in which students are learning things all by themselves, without a teacher and in an unstructured manner depending on topics of interest.

Generally, the teacher is the one who dictates what the students learn. The main focus in Didactic teaching is to impart the knowledge of the teacher to the learners and what is expected of the learners is to properly absorb the lessons given to them.
