What is Cyber Monday?

Cyber Monday is an online shopping event, taking place on the Monday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States. Cyber Monday also takes place the Monday after Black Friday, the Friday after Thanksgiving, where retail businesses offer big discounts on their merchandise.
The term Cyber Monday was coined by digital retail community Shop.org, and has since been used to apply for online shopping in General on the Monday after Thanksgiving. This grew out of the observation that sales spiked once more in working Americans during that day, probably an offshoot of the shopping frenzy that takes place during the days leading up to and the days immediately following Thanksgiving. Americans who are then faced once again with high speed internet seemed to spend the residual shopping energy on shopping online.
This has prompted many online retailers to offer numerous discounts to benefit from this peculiar consumer spending habit. Cyber Monday has gone one to have its own versions in Canada and in Europe. It also helps that Cyber Monday follows closely on the heels of Christmas, another gift-giving season.
