CVD is an acronym for Cardio Vascular Disease. These are diseases that affect the cardiovascular system which comprises vessels such as arteries, veins and capillaries plus the heart itself. The cardiovascular system, commonly known as the circulatory system is responsible for transportation of blood through the entire human body. Blood carrying oxygen is transported from the lings to the heart from where it is pumped to the arteries and transported to the entire body. After oxygen is finished, the blood flows back to the heart then to the lungs through veins.

Major Cardio Vascular Diseases

Cardio Vascular Disease is not a solitary condition. Rather, it is a basic term that describes aliments that affect blood vessels and the heart. Some of the major cardio vascular ailments include heart failure. This is a condition where the pumping function of the heart is affected making it difficult for it to pump blood to the rest of the body.  Stroke is another cardio vascular condition where the flow of blood to parts of the human brain is disrupted or completely stopped. Coronary heart ailment is a term used to refer to several heart conditions resulting from atherosclerosis. This is a situation where plaque develops on artery walls narrowing them. This is makes it difficult for blood to pass. In some cases, a blood clot may develop and block blood completely leading to a stroke or a heart attack results.

Some Key Cardio Vascular Risk Factors

Some of the major causes of cardio vascular diseases include high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol levels and kidney ailments. Cardio vascular diseases are also hereditary and people from families that have a history of heart ailments are at risk.
