Bean curd has been in China from thousands of years and it was actually spread in the world from the same region. It is cheap, easy to make, and also an easy source of consuming protein especially for vegetarians. Bean curd is available in two types which differ in usage with respect to the dishes. In some dishes it is used to give a nice fragment. For this purpose, a type called silken is used, which is also known as Japanese style tofu. Another type is Chinese style tofu, which when cooked, remains in its original shape. Bean curd is readily available in market in packaging which can also be further processed to form a flavored tofu. Fermented bean curve helps to give your dish a flavor and it can be added in the dish at the stage when it comes to develop some desired flavor. Plain bean curd, another type, is more versatile in its usage and it can be baked, steamed, grilled or whatever way you like. One precaution for using bean curd is that it should be fresh when you use it, otherwise its taste might go bad and it may add a bad flavor to your dish as well. It might become confusing for the consumer to actually differentiate between a Chinese style tofu and a Japanese style tofu but this confusion can be eliminated if the package of bean curd is inspected closely.
