AYC stands for Active Yaw Control, a feature in engines that provide an active-type of differential as the engine torque is transferred between the wheels. With this feature, automobiles are said to increase their grip on the road. In order to keep this feature in order, a special fluid is needed by cars with AYC. Through the AYC fluid, maximum traction can be achieved whenever the car senses something that needs it to keep contact with the ground.

AYC or Active Yaw Control is an engine feature developed by Mitsubishi Motors and was first released with the Lancer Evolution Edition IV models. This feature was also introduced in succeeding models of the Lancer lineup along with other popular models like the Mitsubishi Galant sedan version and the Mitsubishi Legnum wagon type car. The technology was designed to help the rear differential of automobiles in terms of splitting the engine torque to ensure that maximum grip on the road is achieved. Through an electronic control system, forces on the vehicle including data from the steering, braking system, and the throttle are recorded and analyzed to adjust the torque by means of hydraulic axles on the rear end of the car. This system can only work and should be maintained using a special fluid called the AYC fluid.

Proper maintenance of the AYC system through its special fluid is said to provide various benefits to automobiles. One such benefit is the control of torque delivery on all four wheels making the vehicle more stable especially during cornering attempts. Under-steering may also be avoided with the help of the AYC system. The torque transfer is also very helpful in situations wherein the road is very slippery. In this particular case, power and torque will be transferred by the AYC system to the wheel with the best grip on the road.
