Alkaline water refers to water that is considered neutral in terms of its pH level.  This water is neither basic nor acidic and has a pH of about 7 or 8.  Alkaline water is also called ionized water because of the so-called healthy ions it retains by being neutral on the pH scale.  People can get alkaline water by buying ready-to-drink bottles or through machines that can regulate the pH level of standard tap water.  Advocates of alkaline water often emphasize the various health benefits of this kind of water versus the supposed impurities that are contained within normal tap water.

Detoxification is considered the best benefit that people can get from alkaline water.  This type of water is said to contain various healthy ions in the form of minerals such as calcium, potassium, and sodium among others. These healthy minerals are thought of as people’s defense against the acidic impurities and wastes in the body.  Many toxins freely float in the bloodstream and these may be combated through the regular consumption of ionized or alkaline water.  Aside from the basic hydration and oxygenation provided by alkaline water, free radicals and wastes in the body can be easily neutralized by this type of water resulting to enhancement of the immune system and overall healthier body.  Many people also claim that alkaline water can also help people get or feel better with various medical concerns like indigestion, asthma, and heartburn among many others. There are also claims that alkaline water can help people combat the aging process by making the body more healthy and free from various diseases.

Despite the supposed health benefits of alkaline water, not all people are convinced of this product.  Many people also believe that there is limited research regarding the supposed effects of ionized or alkalinized water into detoxifying the body and promoting overall health. Others also argue that the benefits of alkaline water cannot be attained if people continue to eat unhealthy food items.
