What does HTC mean?
HTC is a mobile phone company established in 1997 by Cher Wang and Peter Chou. HTC or High Tech Computer Corporation first ventured in the mobile phone and handheld device markets in Taiwan.

Its first venture was a combination of a mobile phone and a personal data assistant. But the first products didn’t become successful in the market. Later on, HTC developed generic handsets for use and re-branding by other mobile phone companies and operators. The first success story came in the form of a mobile computer in the year 2000 which was bought by Compaq. By year 2002, HTC became famous again for releasing the first Microsoft-powered pocket PC device. The company would then go on to have successful business relations with other mobile phone operators like Orange, Verizon Wireless, HP, Vodafone, Sprint Nextel, and T-Mobile among others.

Between 2000 and 2006, HTC strengthened its relationship with Microsoft releasing several firsts in the handheld device and phone segments. During this period, the first Microsoft-powered smart phone, music phone, 3G phone, Mobile 5.0 platform phone, and Mobile 5.0 smart phones were released in the market.

By 2006, HTC began selling its own brand of phones with a wide variety of choices and features. In June of 2007, HTC prided itself for becoming the first manufacturer to release a phone with intuitive touch screen technology (TouchFlo). Today, HTC continues it mission to innovate and provide handsets with great design and functionality. Some of their successful products include HTC Advantage, HTC Pro, HTC Legend, HTC Smart, Nexus One, HTC Touch, HTC Desire, and HTC Shift.

Recently, HTC has been awarded as the 2011 Device Manufacturer of the Year by the Global Mobile Awards, with Apple and Samsung as the other two finalists. This cements HTC’s place in the very competitive mobile phone manufacturing industry.
