Things to do in Sipalay

Sipalay is called the jewel of the Sugar Island Philippines. It is also a major industrial centre of the region known for its copper mining and trading. However this does not make Sipalay a dreary dull place. It is an ideal tourist destination that offers amazing views of the sea and the hills, lots of marine adventure and above all peace and quiet.

Activities

Diving: This is the most sought after adventure sport in Sipalay. There are several five star marine resorts that offer latest diving equipment and extremely skilled guides. The equipments can be easily rented and most of the diving sites are located in the vicinity of these resorts. These diving trips give you a chance to explore the underwater coral landscapes, under water wrecks and ruins, and a range of exotic marine wildlife.

Boating: The beauty of the place is in the unrestricted extent of its beaches and the stunning blue sea. If you are looking for something less adventurous, boating is your option. Take a boat ride or a safari around the region and nearby islands. The silence will be so absolute you would nearly hear it.

Others: You can also do underwater photography, snorkeling, fishing etc

Places to visit:

Sugar Beach: A remote shoreline with an unprecedented view of the ocean and the hills. It is a beautiful stretch of golden sand and clear water away from the noisy world. This place is ideal for swimming as it is extremely clean and secluded. There are several good restaurants near the beach that serve authentic food of the region.

Punta Ballo Beach on the other hand is ideal for snorkeling. Situated at 7 km from the city of Sipaly this beach also has many attractions, an amazing underwater wildlife, and quaint village atmosphere. You can stay in the wooden cabins along the beach or on the top of the surrounding hills. The sunsets here are breathtaking.

Anhawan Island, also called turtle island is located off-the coast of Sipalay City. It can be reached by boat or ferry. You can spend an entire day here doing various activities like diving and underwater photography. Or you can just bask in the sun. This is the place where you will also see Turtle hatchlings.

Shaped like a horse shoe, Campomanes Bay is located at a 40 minutes distance from the city. The water is turquoise. You can see the ocean stretch out till the horizon. A boat ride will take you on a journey of discovery. The water is clear and you can see the enchanting underwater life. The coral reef, the lush green surroundings, the white sand and deep waters are amazing. You can also do water skiing, banana boat, recreational fishing etc.

The Matlag cave located at about 10 minutes from White Beach is about 200m long. It is dark and murky inside and the ceiling is full of bats. Not more that five to seven visitors can fit inside the cave at one time. The Mamara on the other hand is located at a thirty minutes distance from White Beach. It is large and spacious and there is a big lake inside. You can also see dripstones.

Events and festivals

During the dry season from November to April, there are beach parties around all the time. These are lively and enjoyable.

The Pasaway Festival is a copper worship celebrated in March. There are parades that depict the tribal life, their costumes and most importantly their copper ornaments.

The village of Punta Ballo celebrates every year the annual disco festival in March.
