Political Promises

Politics has had an incredulous influence in determining the rise and frequency of terrorist activities all across the world. Political debates in the United States certainly have led to the perpetuation of terrorist acts because the promises politicians make can lead to disaster. Almost all presidents that have been elected to office have made a promise specifically to increase employment rates and make life better for the ordinary citizen. The fact is, without terrorist activities, there would be no military expeditions to foreign countries that usually results in the collapse of their economies. Military expeditions by the United States as a result of political promises often result in the creation of terrorist groups (Lewis, 2004). Their main concern usually is the interference of the United States in the affairs of such countries, and terrorist acts are targeted as revenge missions. Politicians in the United States often come to realize that military expeditions create several opportunities. These include the sale of ammunition and the construction of foreign destroyed economies. Politicians, therefore, need to be more careful with the promises they make because they aggravate radical and extremist groups all around the world into terrorist activities.

Spheres of Influence

The conclusion of the Second World War saw the United States rising as the world’s major superpower country, replacing traditional European countries. Since then, the country has been rapidly expanding its spheres of influence, specifically after European countries began a policy of decolonization after the war. Political aspirations and ambitions of several American leaders since the war have either directly or indirectly resulted in the perpetuation of terrorism. The best example is George Bush, who, after the September 11th attacks, authorized the consequential invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. Terrorist groups have gained prominence since this period, and they have become more effective in targeting innocent civilians (Smith, 2006). The Madrid Train Bombings in 2004, the London Bombings on July 7th, 2005 and the Paris attacks in 2015 shed insight into the dangers of political propaganda. The desire by politicians to expand the spheres of influence of the United States around the world has led to the formation of radical groups. Most of these terrorist groups are mainly against the foreign influence that the United States brings into their countries. Political ambitions that fuel the need to expand America’s spheres of influence around the world are fuelling terrorist activities on the globe.

Radicalization Hypothesis

Politics has taught several Americans that radicalized ideas, specifically Islamic theological ideas are responsible for causing terrorist acts. The main enemy in the war of terrorism in the United States has been Islamists because radicalization hypothesis have demeaned the religion. Politicians often take advantage of Muslims because they are a minority population in the United States. Additionally, the United States has had a history of intervening in the affairs of foreign countries specifically in the Middle East. Most of the radicalization ideas stem from the need to remove American influence from most foreign countries in the Middle East (Kobeisy, 2004). Terrorists, therefore, become dangerous because they implement all the measures possible to instill fear and respect. The topic of the Middle East is always a vital political debate, specifically during Presidential campaigns. Americans always want to hear what the next president will do about guaranteeing peace in the Middle East, and this makes it a crucial political topic. Terrorism in society, thus, springs from the actions and decisions made in politics rather than radical ideas from different theological religions. Politics, therefore, is among the well-known institutions that are behind terrorism. Finding a peaceful and sustainable political agenda is the only way to put an end to terrorism activities across the globe.
