How many written languages are there in the world?
Not too many people know there are around 6800 languages in the world today. It is extremely difficult to estimate how many written and unwritten languages there are in the world. The main idea is that there is no established source of information. For example, the population of Papua New Guinea speaks around 800 different languages, and gradually more and more of them are being used in education. More and more communities started developing their own writing languages. Officially, theses languages do not appear in too many statistics.
