How many websites are there in the world?

Over 700 million in 2013

Believe it or not, these days we are fast approaching 1 billion websites.  This is definitely something. Keep in mind that there was only one website in 1991.  Keep in mind that Netcraft’s March 2012 website survey discovered 644,275,754 active websites at the beginning of 2013.  The main idea is that “website” represents a unique hostname.  It is interesting to know that the first-ever website (info.cern.ch) was published on August 6, 1991 by British physicist Tim Berners-Lee, in Switzerland.
