How many vocal cords are there?

1 set

The term “vocal cords” is generally used to describe the part of the body that creates sound for the voice.  There is also the term “vocal folds”.  The two terms mean the same thing.   It is considered that people have a set of vocal cords on the left of the trachea and one on the right, in the larynx area.  Keep in mind that the “false chords” are basically connective tissue.  On the other hand,  the “true chords” are white in color and are the chords that actually open/close the airway for things such as breathing, swallowing and talking.
