How many veterans are there in 112th Congress?

It is important to know that there are 118 veterans in the 112th Congress.  Keep in mind that veterans accounted for 22 percent of the 112th Congress.  Keep in mind that the end of the 112th Congress signified  the departure of some long-serving Senators who were members of the armed forces.  Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN), who served six terms, was defeated in a primary race.  Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM)—five terms, Sen. Herb Kohl (D-WI)—three terms, and Daniel Akaka (D-HI)—World War II veteran who served three terms, did not seek reelection.
