How many soil organisms are there?

The number of soil organisms is enormous

It is important to understand the fact that the number of individual soil animals in the soil is enormous.  It is interesting to know that there are billions of protozoa per square meter (m2), millions of nematodes/m2 and 100 000’s of mites/m2.  Not too many people know that the whole mass of living organisms in soil is called its microbial biomass.  Keep in mind that oil animals are found in almost every environment on earth, including Antarctica.  Soil organisms perform so many functions.
