How many schools are there in the US?
It is important to know that education in the US is mainly provided by the public sector, with control and funding coming from three levels: state, local and federal. Moreover, most children enter the public education system around ages five or six (the age changes from one state to another). Needless to say, public education is universally available. According to US National Center for Education Statistics, in 2008-2009, there were 98,706 public schools. Moreover, in 2007-2008, there were 33,740 private schools.
