How many rivers are there in India?

Not too many people know the fact that seven major rivers along with their numerous tributaries make up the river system of India. Here is the list: Indus, Brahmaputra, Narmada, Tapi, Godavari, Krishna and Mahanadi. It is interesting to know the fact that most of the rivers pour their waters into the Bay of Bengal.  Keep in mind that all major rivers originate from one of the three main watersheds.
