How many rhinos killed are there?
Approximately 668 every year
The statistics released by the South African government do not look good at all. They reveal that 668 rhinos were killed in 2012, meaning a 50% increase over 2011 and a consistent 5000% increase since 2007, when the number was 13. The data is terrifying. Moreover, five rhinos have already been killed in South Africa in 2013. Unfortunately, the illegal wildlife trade represents the most urgent threat to three of the world’s most popular species: elephants, rhinos and tigers. The wildlife crime has never reached such a high scale. Many international organizations make significant efforts to ensure survival of these important species.
