How many Pteridophytes are there?

Not too many people know that Pteridophytes are vascular plants that have leaves, roots and sometimes true stems.  Moreover, tree ferns have full trunks.  It is interesting to know that ferns first appeared in the fossil record 360 million years ago in the Carboniferous.  Keep in mind that there are around 13,000 species of Pteridophytes.  Not too many people know that these plants also reproduce via spores.  Popular examples of Pteridophytes include ferns, horsetails and club-mosses.
