How many pet owners are there in the United States?

It is interesting to know that the number of pet owners has significantly increased during the past years.  Keep in mind that there were 67 million dogs and cats in homes in 1970.  Needless to say, in 2010 there were 164 million pets.  In 2013 there were 83.3 million owned dogs.  It is important to know that 47%of households own at least one dog.   There are 95.6 owned cats.  There are generally 2 cats per family.  46% of the Americans have one cat.
