over 1 and a half million

The meerkat or suricate is a small mammal belonging to the mongoose family.   Keep in mind that a meerkat clan often contains about 20 meerkats.  These days, there are approximately 1 and a half million meerkats in the world.  Most of them live in Kalahari Desert in Botswana, in much of the Namib Desert in Namibia and southwestern Angola and in South Africa.   In captivity, meerkats live approximately 12–14 years.  It is important to know that meerkats are primarily insectivores, but also eat other animals.
