How many marine species are there?

0.7-2.2 million species

There are so many controversies when it comes to the number of marine species.  Specialists estimate that there are between 0.7 and 2.2 million marine species.  In fact, most of the biologists consider that there could be many more than that.  Guess what, the new potential species do not have names yet.  It is widely known the fact that the ocean represents a lot of territory, about 1.3 billion cubic kilometers.  This obviously signifies about 95% of the habitable real estate on the planet.
