How many Maori seats are there?

7

Not too many people know the fact that in New Zealand politics M?ori seats are a special category of electorate that gives reserved positions to representatives of M?ori in the Parliament of New Zealand.  These days, there are 7 Maori seats.  The main idea is that Maori seats date back to the Maori Representation Act 1867, which created four M?ori seats.  It is important to know that only voters who have registered on the M?ori roll are eligible to vote in the M?ori seats.   Needless to say, to be on the M?ori roll, a voter must be of M?ori descent.
