How many manatees are there in Florida?

It is interesting to know the fact that there are about 1500 manatees in Florida.  It is difficult and expensive to count them.  Keep in mind the fact that manatees can be found throughout the West Indies, along the east coasts of Central America and South America, throughout the Amazon River basin, along the coast of West Africa, and in the Congo River.  Keep in mind the fact that they live to be at least 50 years old.  Do not forget that manatees usually have only one baby.
