As Thomas W. Shields describes on his book “General Thoracic Surgery”, the right lung ‘“ which is larger than the left lung ‘“ contains 3 lobes: upper, middle and lower. The left lung contains only 2 lobes: upper and lower. In addition to these 5 lobes, 3 accessory lobes may occur due to accessory fissures in the left lung: posterior, inferior and middle.
