How many life sentences are there in US?
1 in 10
There is not an exact number of life sentences in US. Anyway, a 2005 survey by The New York Times discovered that about 132,000 of the nation’s prisoners, or almost 1 in 10, are serving life sentences. The same study found out that in 1993 about 20 percent of all lifers had no chance of parole. Believe it or not, by 2004, the number rose to 28 percent. The main idea is that the United States is now housing a large population of prisoners who will probably die of old age behind bars.
