How many Koalas are left in the world?

50000-100000 in Australia

Everyone knows that the Koala is unique to Australia and represents an important symbol of the country. Experts say it is extremely difficult to predict the total number of Koalas in Australia, but it is likely to be somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000.  Unfortunately, in some areas, numbers have dropped by as much as 80% in the last 10 years.  Keep in mind that Koalas spend most of their time sleeping.  Moreover, they eat eucalyptus leaves.  Their brains are very small relative to their size.  Furthermore, a healthy koala lives about 12-16 years.
