How many kiwis are there?

70000

There are approximately 70000 kiwis all over the world.  Not too many people know that there are five different species of kiwi.  All these species are flightless and unique to New Zealand.  It is interesting to know that the kiwis at the National Zoo are North Island brown kiwis.  In fact, these are the only kiwi species that can be seen outside of New Zealand.   Unfortunately, all the five species are endangered or vulnerable to extinction.  Not too many people know that most kiwi species live in pairs and form very long pair bonds.
