The main idea is that there are more and more jazz musicians in the world.  The exact number of jazz musicians in the world cannot be provided.  It is extremely difficult to say who qualifies to be counted as a jazz musician.  Believe it or not, there were more than 33000 jazz musicians only in New York in 2001.  Needless to say, there were 19000 jazz musicians in San Francisco and 1723 in New Orleans.  Anyway, statistics show that the number of jazz musicians in the metropolitan jazz hubs is increasing.
