How many items in an array does Perl support?

Unlimited.

As discussed in the book “Programming Perl” (by Larry Wall, Tom Christiansen and Jon Orwant), Perl is a flexible programming language, for there are no predetermined data limits ‘“ neither of content nor of length. Therefore, Perl arrays may contain as many elements as needed by the programmer; eventually, it all depends on hardware and network limitations, not on the language itself.
