The latest Bureau of Justice Statistics’â„¢ Bulletin reports that, by the end of 2008, the amount of prisoners in the US was 1,610,446. Among this population, aged mostly between 25 to 39 years, 93% are men, and more than 30% are Mexican citizens. The states presenting the highest number of inmates are Texas, California and Florida.
