A survey undertaken by PandaLabs ‘“ a Panda Security division ‘“ estimates that more than 10 million identity theft cases occurred world-wide in 2008. This study, focused mainly on internet based identity theft, shows that 1.1% of the world’â„¢s internet users were victims of identity theft. However, according to the Consumer Sentinel Network only a small portion of the victims registered a formal complaint: 313,982.
