How many handicapped parking spaces should be provided?
One handicapped parking space for every 8 ordinary parking spaces
The ADA Guidelines say that there should be at least one parking space reserved for handicapped people for every 8 standard access parking spaces in a parking lot. It should be van accessible with an international handicap sign and an access aisle at least 8 inches wide to permit a person in a wheelchair or scooter to be lifted up and down from a van.
The total number of handicapped parking spaces in a parking lot will depend on the total number of parking spaces available. The chart for this is available at the ADA Handicap Parking information page.
