How many GSM subscribers are there worldwide?

According to the International Telecommunication Union, at the end of 2012 there were 6.8 billion mobile subscribers.  Believe it or not, this is the equivalent of 96 percent of the world population (approximately 7.1 billion).  This is definitely an increasing trend.  There were 6 billion mobile subscribers in 2011 and 5.4 billion mobile subscribers in 2010.  In Africa there are 545 m mobile subscribers, in the Arab States there are 396 m, in Europe 790 m. in Asia and Pacific there are 3547 m.
