How many ELL students were there in the US in 2010?

4.7 million

It is important to know that ELL comes from English language learner.   ELL students refer to students being served in appropriate programs of language assistance (English as a Second Language, High Intensity Language Training or bilingual education).  There were so many ELL students in public schools in 2010.  Believe it or not, 10 percent of the US students were ELL students.  Statistics show that approximately 4.7 million students were ELL students in 2010.  Keep in mind that in 2003 there were only 4.1 million ELL students.
