7% of the world’s population

Believe it or not, statistics show that approximately 7% of the total population of the world is represented by old people.  Moreover, the interesting part is that by 2040 the number of the elderly will double.  This signifies that 14% of the world’s population will be represented by old persons.  Needless to say, the number of elderly people in the world will exceed the number of children under 5 within 10 years.  Keep in mind that the number of elderly persons will raise to 1.4 billion by 2040.  Not too many people know the fact that the most rapid rise in the elderly population is taking place in developing countries.
