It is extremely difficult to obtain the number of dogs in certain countries. Anyway, statistics show that there are more than 5 million dogs all over the world. Keep in mind the fact that in 2001 there were 4 million dogs. Not too many people know that the domestic dog is the 18-31,000 year old descendant of a now extinct European Wolf. Needless to say, most breeds of dog are at most a few hundred years old. An important study dates domestication from 14,000 years ago to more than 31,700 years ago.
