How many cells are produced in meiosis?

4 for each parent cell.

There are a total of 4 new cells produced by a cell at the end of meiosis. During meiosis, a diploid cell undergoes two cell divisions to give rise to 4 distinct haploid daughter cells. Homologous recombination of DNA also occurs during meiosis resulting in a unique DNA blueprint in the daughter cells. Meiosis is essential in the production of sex cells or gametes in animals.
