How many Catholics are there in the world?
Statistics show that there are almost 1.2 billion Catholics in the world. Not too many people know that more than 40% of the world’s Catholics live in Latin America. On the other hand, believe it or not, Africa has seen the biggest growth in Catholic congregations in recent years. The figures show that there were 45 million Catholics in 1970 and, in 2012, there were 176 million. Catholicism trends are not the same all over the world. For example, the proportion of Catholics living in Europe has recently declined. Asia has also seen a growth in Catholicism, it represents 12% of the total Catholic population in the world.
