How many calories should I eat?
It depends on your height, weight and level of activity.
An accurate way to measure the recommended daily calorie intake would be to use the Harris-Benedict equation, which requires a person’â„¢s gender, weight, height, and age. The formula for daily caloric requirement is as follows:
Little or no exercise | = BMR x 1.2 |
Light exercise (1-3 days/week) | = BMR x 1.375 |
Moderate exercise (3-5 days/week) | = BMR x 1.55 |
Heavy exercise (6-7 days/week) | = BMR x 1.725 |
Very heavy exercise (heavy workout 2x/day, daily) | = BMR x 1.9 |
The BMR is calculated using the following formula:
For men | = 66 + (6.23 x weight in lbs) + (12.7 x height in inches) – ( 6.76 x age in yrs) |
For women | = 655 + (4.35 x weight in lbs) + (4.7 x height in inches) – ( 4.7 x age in yrs ) |
