What is to know about café au lait spots? Well, it is interesting to know that café au lait spots are common birthmarks in up to 2.5 percent of normal neonates. Moreover, their incidence rises to up to 25 percent in preschool-aged children. Keep in mind that a café-au-lait macule (CALM) is a hyperpigmented, sharply demarcated macule or patch of any size. The most interesting part about CALMs is that they are tan to dark brown and can be of any size and located anywhere on the body except the palms, soles, and scalp.
