The number of breaths per minute considered normal for a person varies with age. For babies it is 30 to 60 breaths per minute, for toddlers 25-40, for children 20-25 and for adults 12-20. This is according to the book Clinical Manifestations and Assessment of Respiratory Disease published in 2006.
