The present 111th U.S. Congress has a lone Senator in the person of Rep. Roland Burris of Illinois. This is based on a statistical profile released by the Congressional Research Service in February 2010. To date, there have only been 6 black senators in the U.S. Senate. The first was in Senator Hiram Rhodes Revels of Mississippi who was voted in 1870.
