How many bits are there in a byte?

8 bits

Not too many people know that the term byte was coined by Werner Buchholz in July 1956.  What is a byte?  Well, the byte is a unit of digital information in computing and telecommunications that most commonly consists of eight bits.  Here are the main measurements: 1 byte= 8 bits, 1024 bytes = 1KB, 1024 KB = 1 MB ,1024 MB = 1 GB.  Keep in mind that the byte is also defined as a data type in certain programming languages.  It is important to know that the development of 8 bit microprocessors in the 1970s popularized this storage size.
