How many biomes are there in the world?

8

There are so many controversies when it comes to the number of biomes.  Most of the specialists consider that there are 8 biomes: tundra, taiga, temperate deciduous forest, scrub forest (called chaparral in California), grassland, desert, tropical rain forest and the temperate rain forest.  Not too many people know the fact that biomes are regions in the world that share similar plant structures, plant spacing, animals, climate and weather.  Needless to say, biomes are classified as either terrestrial or aquatic.
