How many bicycles are there in India?
30%-70% of the Indians own a bicycle
It is extremely important to know the fact that bicycles are a common mode of travel in India. Believe it or not, in 2005, more than 40% of Indian households owned a bicycle. Needless to say, the ownership rates ranged from around 30% to 70% at the state level. This is a significant increase. Not too many people know the fact that India is the second largest producer of bicycles in the world. Keep in mind that the Delhi government has decided to construct separate bicycle lanes on all major roads to combat pollution and ease traffic congestion.
