As the name perfectly suggests, the Bengali alphabet is the writing system for the Bengali language.  It is interesting to know that because of the large population of literate Bengali speakers, Bengali script is one of the more widely used writing systems in the world.  Keep in mind that there are 51 letters in the Bengali alphabet.  There are 11 vowels and 40 consonants.  The Bengali script is recognizable by a distinctive horizontal line running along the tops of the letters that links them together.
