The public health textbook New Public Health published in 2009 defines a hospital as ‘Å“a licensed establishment with at least six beds which offers in-patient accommodation and outpatient care with active medical and nursing care’. In 2000 however the American Hospital Association called for a redefinition of hospital capacity.
