How many base pairs are there in the human genome?

3 billion.

The International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium reports counting 3 billion base pairs in the human genome. This is according to a report published by the consortium in the journal Nature in October 2004. These base pairs are split into 24 chromosomes and are equivalent to about 20,000 to 25,000 genes.
