How many bacteria are there in soil?

100 million to 3 billion in a gram of soil

It is widely known the fact that the soil is home to a large proportion of the world’s biodiversity.  It is interesting to know that there are 100 million to 3 billion bacteria in soil.  Keep in mind that bacteria are single-cell organisms.  Believe it or not, one bacterium is capable of producing 16 million bacteria in just 24 hours.  This is definitely something.  Not too many people know that soil bacteria generally live close to plant roots.
